Truck fleet charging and public fast charging
Charging infrastructure for electrifying a truck fleet, designed so the same installation also serves as public fast charging for travellers and buses at a busy stop on Iceland's south coast.
Fleet + public charging

The challenge
The company planned to electrify part of its truck fleet but had neither charging infrastructure nor a grid connection large enough for high-power chargers. The site also houses a well-known restaurant where travellers and buses stop. The opportunity was infrastructure serving both the fleet and the public, which called for careful design.
What we did
- Analysed the fleet's energy and power demand and set up a charging schedule for the trucks
- Designed shared charging infrastructure for the fleet, buses and the public
- Supported the grid connection upgrade together with the grid operator
- Established a partnership with a charge point operator who installed and runs the chargers
Outcome
- The company's trucks can charge at their depot
- DC fast charging for the public and buses at the same site
- An upgraded grid connection and better use of the investment through the day
Lesson
Sharing charging infrastructure between a fleet and the public improves economics and grid connection utilisation.
